When Capilano University first opened as a college in 1968, there were just over 700 students enrolled. Its establishment was a component of a 1960s initiative to increase post-secondary educational accessibility in British Columbia.
At West Vancouver Secondary, Capilano University began with a few after-hours sessions held in temporary classrooms.
After fifty-five years, they can confidently state that CapU is an academic center for the North Shore and beyond, with over 10,000 students from 92 countries and 50,000 graduates.
Scholarships are academic scholarships given on the basis of merit. Financial need is the basis for awarding bursaries. A combination of high grades, athletic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, or other noteworthy accomplishments may be used to determine an award; occasionally, financial necessity is also taken into consideration.
International students often need to demonstrate English language proficiency and have completed secondary school with a minimum 60% average in order to be eligible for Capilano University. Additional academic prerequisites, portfolios, or auditions are examples of specific program requirements. The university's English language competency criteria must also be met by international students.
